So I just received my BODA Lens Bag yesterday and wanted to blog about this awesome purchase.  I have been eyeing this bag ever since the incredible photographer, Jim Garner and his wife, designed and came out with it a couple years ago.  The only reason why I waited so long to purchase the BODA bag was because I like to see and try out products before I invest in anything.  The opportunity to see and try out the BODA lens bag came during WPPI 2009.

At WPPI I saw firsthand many photographers wearing the BODA bag. Jim Garner also talked about it during his seminar and demonstrated how he uses it.  After the seminar I went straight to the BODA booth at the trade show and got the opportunity to try on the bag and get a feel for it – I was sold.  Besides, it was a great deal because everything was included; the shoulder strap, the hip strap, and the hip comfort pad.  I believe I was the fourth person to purchase one that day.  I should have been the first, but several people cut in front of me, lol.

So I have been messing around with it today and I really like how it frees up your shoulder.  You can go with the shoulder strap, but I personally think it is more comfortable around the hip. It has so many pockets for your CF cards, water bottle, batteries, phone, business cards, and of course your lenses.  The top cover opens up for easy access to your lens and it is supposed to be waterproof (I haven’t tried running through a waterfall, but probably shouldn’t have to). I am very excited about my purchase and definitely recommend the BODA lens bag to all photographers.

Here are some pictures showcasing my BODA bag and my feeble attempt with off-camera lighting.

  1. Is it possible to have more than one lens bag? In my case, would it be bad to have, say 4 lens carrying system? I need to stop shopping…

  2. Bag lust is an evil thing. I found that my 3 bag system is perfect… Think Tank airport extreme roller (carries everything), my ShootSac (during shoots), and my Domke F5 (for trips). The Boda looks nice, but I haven’t seen one in person to judge it. Seems a big bulky, but I could be wrong. The most important thing is that you like it :-)

  3. I agree the BODA bag is not the most inconspicuous bag, but I think the main reason I got the bag was because I can carry it around my waist and not my shoulder.  Summer here in Austin is pretty hot and with the shootsac it can get pretty intense (e.g., weight, drenched shoulders, etc.), mostly if you are carrying the 70-200mm plus other lenses.

Yeah, I have the Lowepro Pro Roller, the Shootsac, the Lowepro Cirrus TLZ 25 bag for the a single lens and body carry around, and now the BODA bag.  The BODA bag is around the same size or slighty smaller than the Domke F6.  I looked up your Domke F5 and that is a pretty cool bag….bag lust is pretty evil. LOL. :)   Take care.

  4. I’m so glad to find your blog up and running! Congrats on getting your BODA bag in. I received my umbrella a week or so ago!

  5. I love the bag…how do you like your umbrella?  Have you tested it out?  Did you finish editing your Red Rock shoot pictures?  I am done, but am just waiting for Laura to send me the model release form so I can blog about it.  Anyhow hope you are doing well. Take care.  Talk to you soon.

  6. I don’t think your off camera attempt was feeble :) I rather enjoy the images!! Looks like an awesome bag. I need to look around for one and I may have found the one I need. Time will tell! Thanx again for the blog entry
