Last weekend I had the pleasure of spending the day with 50 or so golden retrievers. Gold Ribbon Rescue of Central Texas (GRR) has an annual picnic event that helps raise money to provide shelter, food, medicine, and an avenue to find permanent homes for these adorable golden retrievers. The event is like a dog reunion that brings goldens that have found permanent homes and goldens that are still looking for homes together to enjoy a day in the park with each other. There was food, dog products to purchase, grooming services, micro-chipping, and even a service to train the dogs for search and rescue.
My sister and her husband adopted a golden from GRR two years ago and they help out with GRR as much as they can. I usually tag along with them to these events to help where I can and enjoy the company of these great dogs. GRR is a great service for rescuing these dogs from the streets and being put down. GRR’s website has stories of these rescued dogs up for adoption that I go to read up all the time. I hope to one day have the means to foster and adopt some goldens, they are really great dogs, drool and all. Here are some pictures of these great dogs. Enjoy and take care.

This puppy up for adoption, just had surgery on his arm and spent all day in a carriage. How can you not adopt this puppy with those eyes?

Probably my favorite picture of the day.

I felt so sorry for the one with the collar. He was so happy though.

There were other dogs besides the golden retrievers that attended. The one below was a therapy dog from Therapy Pet Pals of Texas, Inc….

who apparently thought he was a lap dog.

There were dogs large and small. I love the picture of the dog yawning, every time I look at this picture it would make me yawn too, lol.

This is the best post EVER. I am absolutely in love with goldens. I had one growing up and even though she passed away more than 7 years ago, I am still very emotionally attached to the memory of her. Great photos!!
Thank you Emily. The the goldens are such great dogs and being around them was so much fun. Wish I could adopt them all.
I am so going with you next time. These photos rock! I love that family shot… definitely reflective of the “family member” status and most goldens enjoy.
Thanks Troy, they have several events during the year. I will definitely hit you up for the next event.
I love the weenie dog picture, and the ones of the search and rescue dog!! I’m so sad that I couldn’t go. It must haave been so much fun.
The weenie dog was so needy, it was hilarious. You would have had fun with all the dogs swarming around you.
I went to this a few years ago. Great pictures Thao!
Your photos are magnificent. These dogs are magnificent. I’m a GRR foster-mom and have had the pleasure of fostering around 20 GRR Goldens. I believe I spot my own Clyde (or a dead ringer) right below the one with the e-collar!
The bearded collie is a certified therapy pet pal who regularly visits shut-ins at nursing homes and assisted living centers. These dogs were at our GRR picnic to promote volunteering with Therapy Pet Pals of Texas, Inc. – http://www.therapypetpals.org. He wasn’t a search and rescue dog. I was one of the groomers standing beside their booth and my GRR Goldens are also certified therapy pet pals with this wonderful organization. (Your photos are just awesome – I wish I had your talent and eye for the camera!)
My mistake Brenda, I will get that fixed on my blog. Thanks for the comments.
Thanks Lonnie I had a great time at the event.
You have really captured the beauty of Goldens through your work. Amazing pictures! I adopted from GRR last year – best thing I’ve done. I am a big fan of GRR and Goldens for sure! Thank you for sharing your photos.
